Game Notes
Edmonton opened Round 1 with exactly the kind of stubborn, late‑tilt resolve a contender is supposed to show. They punched out a 2–0 lead in the first—Jason Dickinson wiring one late, then Kasperi Kapanen doubling it a minute later—and for a while it looked like a clean, low‑stress playoff opener. Anaheim had other ideas. The Ducks stormed the second period with three straight: Troy Terry at :19, Leo Carlsson to tie it, then Terry again on the power play to flip the game 3–2 and quiet Rogers Place. Edmonton wobbled, but they didn’t break.
The third belonged to the Oilers’ spine. Dickinson dragged them level midway through the frame, and with the building tightening into that familiar April hum, Kapanen buried his second of the night with under two minutes left—Podkolzin and Draisaitl on the touch passes—to seal a 4–3 win and a 1–0 series lead. Edmonton out‑shot Anaheim 34–28, won the draws, won the hits, and won the moments that matter. Not pretty, but very playoff‑honest.
